The room itself - the bank manager’s suite - was an impressive space if in need of a refresh. The staff were mostly great. Location wise very good - except the noise detailed below.
The bank managers suite we stayed in was directly above the Lucky Cat restaurant which has a DJ, at least on a weekend, and is exceptionally loud with zero soundproofing in the room to compensate. The noise from below went on until midnight. Any other floor and it probably would have been fine, but putting premium rooms in the worst location is certainly a choice. There were other issues too. The room was a bit tired - curtains not fully attached to the rails leaving gaps, lights in the wardrobe not turning off, hard uncomfortable beds, scuffs and rust stains in the bathroom, turn down service promised but not carried out. This is in the top category room so no idea what the others are like. The check in was fairly painful - staff didn’t know restaurant opening times or how to take a security deposit, we’d paid for breakfast but were almost charged until queried because the staff didn’t understand the system. The breakfast itself was bland and especially disappointing given it took over 30 mins to arrive despite a mostly empty dining room. Only soy as an alternative milk was offered but they sent cow’s milk even when soy was requested. The toast was bread that had maybe been in the same room as a toaster at some point. Yes I’m being picky but these are basic things that I’d expect any hotel to get right, so when somewhere at this price point falls short it’s especially noticeable.

As I have recorded, everything went well. I have given top marks so needn't add more I think. I was pleased by my choice which was ideal for my visit to the John Rylands Library with the London Travellers Club and Lunch with the group at thre St Ja,es's Club in Manchester which is exactly opposite the hotel, and so ideal. I was able to walk everywhere, alkthough I need a strick sometimes.
I wouldn't sayt I didn't like the carpet in my room but I would say just one small note, please - I did fall over because I have poor eyesight and coming in to the room [110] I didn't notice with the rather "busy" carpet zigzag pattern that there was a drop of two steps as I moved towards the window end near the bed. It was unlikely a person with not so good sight, and perhaps without all the lights on, would notice the drop because the zig zag pattern distracts the eye into thinking the floor is flat all through to the bed. Perhaps a Note to people if poor sighted ? Or maybe a slight adjustment to highlight where the steps are, without spoiling the aesthetics ?
